Not being diplomatic, actually. I strongly suspect Cantor knew the truth about this, that it was completely random, when he shamelessly used it to try to excuse and divert attention from the threats and violence directed at Democrats.

I don’t know for sure that he lied, but I do know that it was a pretty shabby political snowjob even if he didn’t know the bullet had been fired into the air at random.

He didn’t make a huge issue of the bullet in the office. He said that people in Congress get threats and that it’s unacceptable. He then said, I’ve gotten threats, a bullet went into my office this morning, and that he’s received threatening emails in the past. It’s not like he held a giant press conference about getting his office shot up, which is what a lot of people seem to think.

I really wish he hadn’t gone into Democrats “fanning the flames” by blaming Republicans for the threats. I liked a lot of what he said in his statement, but I wish he’d just left it at “let’s quit this blaming each other bit - we all get threats, and it always sucks”.
