You may find it difficult to believe, but I agree with all three points. Nobody gets the right to appoint themselves spokesperson and, in fact, there are differing views on the subject among the families, friends and survivors of the 9/11 attacks. On the other hand, empathy for the pain of others is generally considered a good thing, and I find nothing wrong with speaking out. That’s how the free marketplace of ideas works in a democracy. And — to bring this back to the beginnign of the thread — the political process has run its course, and has ruled in favor of the legal rights of the property owners to build their community center. The ADL has therefore rightly said that it will not continue to oppose that decision.
