re: #219 Obdicut

I’m concerned that within my lifetime San Francisco will turn into a little island of rich people with poor and middle class bussing in every day. Prices have soared in my lifetime.

The irony is that, given that I’m due to inherit a house in an exclusive SF neighborhood, that’ll make me potentially richer if I sold the house. However, I don’t want to; I want to live there, in a San Francisco where the waiters can afford to have an apartment.

That’s what will happen. So, the waiters will have to either commute or live in shared housing. Happens everywhere of course. I remember getting a tiny studio in Nob Hill for $550 a month back in 1988. Was making 15 bucks an hour so it was affordable. I’d hate to guess what they’re getting now but I’m sure it’s double. At the same time those doing what I did then haven’t seen their wages double. Since at the same time the cost of living has nearly doubled on all expenses.
