Let’s say I’m a private citizen and I’m a prime suspect in a murder. You better damn believe it’s legal for the cops to subpoena my phone records and shit to build their case against me prior to arrest.

Let’s say you’re a private citizen and you are trying to divorce my client and I think you are hiding assets. You better damn believe I’m gonna subpoena your bank records. It’s a routine part of discovery in civil and family actions. Prosecutors also routinely subpoena phone records in crimes because many criminals are idiots and talk to each other before during and after they commit crimes.
