Everett may have been early on, but the hills of eastern Pennsylvania were even earlier. There were CATV systems in places like Pottsville as early as 1948. Some of the familiar names on today’s cable equipment (Jerrold, for instance) go all the way back to those earliest days.
I stand corrected on the chronology, but the abbreviation was really my point. It should be a municipal service—which it was in Everett to start with. But ‘Muricans do love them some parasitic middlemen.
