re: #216 No Malarkey!
I donāt know if you have watched or read The Handmaidās Tale, but it horrifies me thinking about what is dystopian fiction here is becoming all too real for the women and girls of Afghanistan. The young women who were earning college degrees now face a future of being literal prisoners in their own homes.
Read the book and watched the Hulu adaptation. Margaret Atwood implied it was the Reagan Administration which inspired her to write the book.
Iāve also read her sequel āThe Testaments,ā on life in Gilead some twenty years later, and the forces working both within and without the regime to bring it down.
āWeāve Seen This Beforeā: Margaret Atwood on āThe Handmaidās Taleā and How History Repeats Itself (Rolling Stone, May 19, 2021, on the Trump Administration, the show, her sequel book, &c)
