As a reminder, on July 16, dialing all telephone numbers in the United States and Canada must use 1 plus the area code. Telephone companies will block all calls only using seven or four digits.
(Folks in town are going to have to get used to this.)
I donât think that youâll need to dial 1 before the area code unless youâre calling long-distance. We transitioned over to ten-digit dialing a few months back in preparation for 988 service, and I havenât had to dial 1 before the area code for local calls yet.
EDITED TO ADD: According to the FCCâs consumer guide on ten digit dialing, you shouldnât have to dial 1 before the area code for local calls. You still have to do it for long distance calls.
