I just got back from doing some last minute shopping. The State Wine and Liquor store, which will close at 6PM and will be closed tomorrow, was madness. I’m betting the parking lot will be like demolition derby around 5:45 or so. I got a bottle of red and of white for under $20 for tomorrow’s dinner.

Just after that my wife came home. She works elder care. The son of one of her clients gave her a bottle of white and red from a winery called Cakebread Cellars. Looked it up and they’re over $70 apiece. You don’t want to get used to that kind of thing, but it was a nice gift of appreciation. My wife bought presents for all of her clients, too (one of whom she was to care for tomorrow morning died today).

That’s OK, I just came from my neighborhood Kroger, where their network is apparently down and they can’t take any debit/credit cards; fortunately, I had cash, but it still took me 15-20 minutes of standing in line to check out a box of dog food. There’s a whole bunch of people in those lines that are trying to get last-minute stuff before the store closes at 6 PM getting pissed off right now…
