My died passed away in 1983. He talked some, not much. I met some of the men ion his unit and his CO. When he died I got all his papers and spent time trying to figure out where he was and when. He was in charge of the 476th Amphibian Truck Company (attached to 4th Marine Division). He went in with the recon unit on the first wave to set up a base to bring in the heavy artillery. Charles doesn’t like us to list our names here, but if you google Iwo Jima Order of Battle, he is listed.

Thank you so much. I have done a fair amount of study about Iwo…I will look at that. My dad went in very early, too - Fourth Medical Battalion. His rank was PhM2c.

Have you read Flags of Our Fathers? (I know the author a little bit.) That book really opened my eyes.
