It would be interesting to see what a smart, dogged interviewer would do with that response of hers, like pointing out that tort reform of the sort the GOP desires already exists in a number of states, but healthcare and health insurance are no cheaper there, while also pointing out that despite the decrying of ‘defensive medicine’, it actually DOES save lives - I think one estimate was about 90,000/year?

“So, given that Gov. Palin, how is it you see tort reform making insurance more affordable for average Americans?”

Hell, just ask her how Texas, which did institute tort reform, fared in the first few years after such became law. After she mumbled and muttered for a second, I’d point out that malpractice insurance rates skyrocketed, contrary to the predictions of the law’s supporters. And even though they tapered off in recent years, they are still above the national average.
