I was Amphib as well - Minesweepers. We blockaded the Dominican Republic soon after Cuba. Did you make that party?

I could write a book about why I missed that. My ship made it, but my LCM, Bowhook, Coxswain me did not. Our boat had been loaned to another ship for a few days, and she was called back to help locate the Thresher sub sinking. We were dropped off on Viegas Island to await the return of our ship weeks later. We lived on the Mike boat, ate with the Marines, road the native horses, quite a adventure.
