re: #215 Big Beautiful Door

There is an argument that a Constitutional Monarch is a very useful position in a democracy. The Queen is the head of state, but has no legitimate claim to power, thereby preventing the kind of destabilizing gridlock which often occurs in a presidential system in which both the legislature and the president can claim electoral legitimacy.

Still don’t really get it. The “no legitimate claim to power” part is what’s killing me. I mean, why even make it a person then? The monarch might as well be a mountain, or a tree, or literally a dildo. Also the current post Brexit paralysis kind of belies the entire argument, though in this case all major parties seems to be running away from the leadership role the results are still massively destabilizing and dysfunctional.
