And they’re opening up the door not to moderation, but to the loons to replace them. Loons who think that Trumpism is not only a good thing to emulate, but that Trump doesn’t go far enough.

The extremists took over the GOP, and they’re continuing to move the GOP further to the right.

That too is a function of the gerrymandering of districts which means GOP (or Dem) controlled districts are likely to become more extreme in their views, rather than move towards the center in hopes of winning centrist/independent voters.
