my brother seems to be a bit of a changeling, when he was visiting me here in Europe he was certainly conservative in his views, but nothing I found extreme.

Then my daughter went to visit him at home in Indiana last year and came back telling me that he was a raving right-wing Foxbaugh listener/viewer/devotee and spewer of RW talking points the whole time she was there.

Well it could be that your niece and you have different views of what counts as conservative and or extreme. But a lot can change.
