…the GOP wont act because the rank and file see Putin not as an enemy of the US, but as someone to emulate. They want an autocrat who pushes a kleptocracy and rewards his close confidants (but those riches/wealth never ends up at his most strident supporters at the ground level). Like Trump, Putin’s pushing policies that enrich himself, but Russians don’t see any of the benefits - just more misery.

And they like the way he he has enshrined the Russian Orthodox church as a theocratic institution.
