The thing is, where does this leave the status of the US equivalent of, say, the Bader-Meinhoff Gang? Obvious example: the Weathermen. Are they terrorists in Paula Reid’s definition?
Sarah Palin certainly considered them to be terrorists; that was a regular part of her stump speech.
Republicans accept that left-wing domestic terrorism is terrorism. They’re more conflicted about calling right-wing domestic terrorism terrorism. When pressed, most will grudgingly admit that Timothy McVeigh was a terrorist; the Bundy Bunch not so much. And it’s only on the left that people will call the KKK terrorist.
Remember the huge outcry when DoJ had their domestic terrorism report a few years back, a project initiated during the Bush admin that was ready for publication early in Obama’s first term?
