Reminds me of a story I once saw about the Normandy operations: Allied troops captured four Asian men in German uniforms who spoke a language no one could understand. They were sent to London where it was determined that they were Korean. Their story was weird: they were the last survivors of a unit of Koreans who had been drafted into the Japanese Army in 1939: they had been captured by Soviet troops in one of the Russian-Japanese border wars, they had volunteered for the Red Army, fought in it til they were captured during Barbarossa, switched sides yet again, and ended the war fighting for the Wehrmacht in France. Maybe a fairly extreme example of “Osttruppen”: hopefully they got to retire peacefully back in Korea (doubtful, though)…
