If we count those who will die in the coming weeks and months, I can believe that.

Sigh. If there’s any good to come out of this, maybe it can be a renewal of a sense that we humans have one implacable enemy that we need each other’s help to face: The cruel, random machinations of chance, embodied in the fury and devastation of nature. We spend so much time fighting each other and building monuments to our vanity.
