Heck, as written it could refer to the hearing ‘I don’t agree with that lifestyle.’ from someone sitting at a nearby table at a restaurant.

Even if it is an overheard remark, it makes the speaker sound like an asshole to me, because ‘agreeing’ with another person’s lifestyle is often as relevant as ‘agreeing’ with another person’s race or religion. It’s nobody’s business, and someone who feels compelled to express their disapproval of another human, especially if that human has no impact on the disapprover’s life, is an asshole. It’s a little stronger of a term than I would post, unless I knew of maddening specifics, I would say jerk.
