Was Franklin a Federalist? Not nitpicking because you’re right about the Federalists actually having more abolition and slavery opponents in their ranks. You can add John Adams to that too.

Wikipedia says he was an independent, but he served in the Washington and Adams administrations, so I’d say he was at least effectively a Federalist.
