Old saying: One man with a machine gun can control a hundred without.

The issue being is the hundred could most certainly overwhelm the one. The issue is none of them want to die.

That’s why military training is so intense on following orders, because the standard reaction is “run.”

Think also of police with tear gas against protesters, despite overwhelming numbers of protesters. They could overwhelm police, but do not.

I understand that. It’s also even simpler: Most people don’t want to be inconvenienced or made to get outside their comfort zone. But, if we don’t want Trump to win, we can’t do that any more. If we’re going to stop the thugs who think that Trump’s win means they can terrorize women, minorities, or LGBTs, we can’t do the things we have been doing.

Most people don’t overwhelm the police because the police aren’t the target. And it makes the government look bad when peaceful protesters are targeted with teargas. That’s how Civil Rights groups made progress in the 50s and 60s, and how India won its freedom from England.
