As you might recall from recent history, SARS-CoV 2 started in the USA as one case.

Except COVID had already adapted to humans when it reached here — there were thousands (or more) infected in China, and people who had been overseas brought it here repeatedly. It didn’t spread from one person, it spread from many people.
