I never carry cash so it was all plastic. I cancelled everything and there were no pending charges that I wasn’t aware of so I am not too worried. Was more concerned about my SS card being in the wallet but it’s so old it sticks to everything and may not be noticed. Just a pain because now I have to go to the DMV and get a new license (and pay a fee of course) then go with that and my passport to get a new SS card.

If it helps any, I just applied for and got Social Security—did it online and never had to show the card to anybody.

Paradoxically, when I was getting a new bank account (or rather having my name put on an existing one) to send that SS payment to, they took my SS card as a second piece of ID, despite hearing for 45 years: “It’s not identification.”

Bottom line: You don’t need it for what it was for, but may need it for something else.
