However it should be kept in mind that not everything shown in early documentaries is the “unvarnished truth”. The Allies believed in some things that turned out to be exaggerated or legendary afterwards (like Ilse Koch’s “lampshades”). This is something that the deniers use to some effect nowadays. To get the comprehensive picture of the concentration camps I would recommend Nikolaus Wachsmann’s book KL, a great historiographic achievement.
