Our elementary school had a regulation ring and mandatory boxing for every kid during the school year. Candy prize fights were voluntary during the Summer. By a fluke of physiology I won all of my matches except one kid that handed me my ass. The theory was that it kept down unregulated violence—I was only in one playground fight during my 5 years there.
