Soviet-era breweries intentionally did not pasteurize their beer so that it only kept for 2-3 days to prevent hoarding. When buying beer, it was always important to note the bottling date stamped on the cap.

Beer will keep without pasteurization. Depends on the hop content, is it filtered, does it still contain live yeast, etc. It can also retain its quality. In fact beer can improve with age.
