Maybe he was a Quaker. Maybe he came from an ex-communist country and didn’t like the idea of pledging. Maybe he’s just someone who knows what free speech means.

I Loves the free speech, and having served this nation of ours - embrace it.

I find ex-service folks truly understand this right and that through the efforts of not just those who have served but the diligent work of others, both in public and in private, this nation and it’s citizens enjoy it.
This is not the case in many countries, even ones we might consider like us.

It’s a shame really. The Rights we have in this country are at times uniquely American. Faults and all, the American Experience.

For me, saying the Pledge has meaning and I embrace it too. Not with of a sense of being a ‘better’ American than other citizens, because I choose to and can.

And I prefer America the Beautiful.
