In my student days, you could get seven packets of ramen noodles for a buck, eight if they were on sale. That and a block of tofu, some onions, eggs and some cabbage (broccoli if it was on sale) was pretty much my staple broke-ass student diet for a long time.

I found out a bit later that part of the reason those blue boxes were such a staple in my parents’ house when I was young is that they, too, were once broke-as-fuck newlyweds.
