re: #216 Targetpractice

Just to give you an idea of how fucked up the way Berners are acting right now, I suggest looking through the Fark Politics Tab from the Iowa caucus to now. You could literally separate everything into “Pre-South Carolina” and “Post-South Carolina” in terms of attitude that is on display.

Pre-SC, there’s all this “party unity” and talk about how wrong it is to attack other candidates when we should be “Blue No Matter Who” because any one of the candidates could beat Trump in November. All that talk is only matched by the obvious glee that is seen in threads about how Joe’s candidacy seems to be stalling out and he just needs to quit because “it’s over.”

Post-SC? Salt Mountain. The moment it looks like Joe is no longer out of the race, the Berners drop the masks and start screaming that the DNC is “rigging” the race, that Pete and Amy were “forced” to leave the field, that “the establishment” is out to destroy “progressives,” and all sorts of toxicity towards “moderates.” Oh, and in the past 48 hours, every thread about the primaries is turning into wall-to-wall CTs about Biden’s “cognitive decline.”

One of my favorite things as a sports buff is to reread the fan forum threads of opposing rival after a great collapse. It just shows the ups and downs of fanaticism. I imagine the Fark forums are just like that. The thing I imagine about many Berners like that is they never thought to actively persuade people towards Bernie that may have voted for Clinton last time. And what’s more I think that’s what happened at the grassroots level where they could have benefited most.
