The RW media (and the mainstream lackeys) did a good job of portraying this as the case of a person engaging in private prayer in a public place (which was never in dispute) and ignoring the fact that he was using his capacity as a public employee on a public facility to proselytize a religious faith - to minors entrusted to his care.

Had those students been kneeling on prayer rugs facing Mecca, the outcome might have looked different…

It is truly offensive that coaches want G-d to decide in their favor when all that is at stake is a game, where the opponents are not representing some evil destructive force. To reduce religion to a magical good luck talisman is to make it primitive and meaningless. My prayer is that our nation survive intact and as a democracy, with Roberts and his 5 companions denounced as monsters, and recorded as such by historians — and that they live long enough to see their victories turn to ashes and their reputations shredded for all time.
