I don’t want the Death Penalty to be common. However, there are cases where the crime is so depraved and atrocious that it is the only reasonable option.

It’s never ‘reasonable’. At it’s ‘best’, it’s saying the person is so dangerous they need to die. At worst, what it usually is, is a desire for vengeance, which is just dumb as hell and hurts victims as well.

Death penalty isn’t something you can have for just “No, we really really really really know this guy is guilty and deserves it and all”. That’s not a legal standard. It always gets abused. We know this.
