Well, it can be quite a detrimental effect at the polls if they force an extreme candidate’s victory in a primary, and then their chosen candidate loses in the general election.

I still think Limbaugh and his ilk helped GW Bush to win the GOP primary in 2000, which proved to have pretty negative consequences for the GOP and possibly the country.
