Given the workings of the international arms market, they wouldn’t necessarily be traceable, at least not to a publicly undeniable degree. The Iranians could arrange delivery direct from any number of suppliers, many of which would not themselves be the original source. Any deal with Iran would probably not involve small arms anyway, since the cartels have a variety of sources for those. They could use explosives, though, along with MANPADS, RPGs, and components for IEDs.
So the US would still get the blame because the traceable weapons would come from us?
