There is no separate voter registration. About one month before any kind of vote (election or referendum), you automatically receive a notification letter with the details of your polling place. You can bring that letter with you to the polling place to speed things up, but you can vote without it if you don’t have it with you. All you need is your ID, which is not a problem as it is mandatory to have one.

I have brought this up a number of times, but a mandatory national ID (one for citizens one for legal resident aliens) and a mandatory registered address would put an end to almost all discussion of voter fraud, welfare or social services fraud, illegal residence, illegal employment, etc.

In Germany, you need to present your ID and registration before opening a bank account, enrolling children in school, registering a car, obtaining a driver’s license, signing a lease or employment contract, opening a mobile phone or land-line account, etc.

There would be no hassle about police asking for proof of residence, everyone who was legally here would have it in their hands or easily available.

And it would be cheaper and more effective than a damn Wall.

Any takers out there?
