Ignoring that destroying your markets is going to destroy the country’s economy at some point as well. No middle class nations are generally messes since they tend to cycle between upper class groups creating mayhem trying to get/retain power, or creating mayhem trying to prevent the lower class revolutionaries (with little to lose) throwing them out in order to become the new power group.
