I think Eastwood had a thing for featuring different styles of older firearms. His character in “Pale Rider” has a revolver for instance that reloads by replacing the entire cylinder.

Although I am not a big fan of firearms, I even went down to our local gun club in Germany when they were having their Western Weekend and plunked down five euros so I could fire off a cap-and-ball pistol.

That was about eleven years ago. Last time I ever held or fired a weapon.
