I’ve met Oktar; he’s an…..interesting….chap, to put it mildly. He catches a lot of flak from hardcore Islamists, largely owing to his rather liberal interpretations of Islam.

That, and he advocates secularism. And art. And music. Needless to say, the hardcore Islamists find that to be a big no-no. There actually was a genuine, bona-fide attempt a year ago or so to assassinate him by al-Qaeda. He was a primary target on their Turkish shit list. They accused him of being a Mossad agent as well as a Freemason (that last one comes about because he was made an honorary Mason by the Grand Lodge of Italy, I believe).
