Read yesterday that the NYPD’s hit rate is like 18%. And these are trained people. Their ideas about guns come from fantasy and pretending they’re the hero of a tacky action movie that is a good popcorn movie that most people would agree is based in fantasy.

The NYPD gets more training than most departments - having to requalify twice a year (and it’s still insufficient for most officers - they’ve recently built a new firing range so that they can get more time to train).

ESU gets far more training (including their specialized Hercules and Atlas units), including for active shooter, domestic terrorist, and counterterrorism ops. That’s why when people get in trouble they call cops, and when the cops get into trouble, they call ESU. They have the equipment and training for these situations.

Beat cops don’t.
