Yes, I think you are correct, her style does lean toward the traditional.

Other folks who quilt and see her work in person comment on the precision, especially that her quilts end up incredibly square and even. The big shame is that you can’t really appreciate them from pictures because the detail isn’t visible.

After my dad passed away, J asked my mom for his ties. She gave them up reluctantly. J used them to make a memory quilt. My mom, who made most of the families clothes while we were growing up and her sister are both accomplished seamstresses. They were both stunned by the quilt, saying it was incredible. My mom has called it her prize possession. Family and friends who have seen it all remark on remembering some of the ties.

That was one of the few quilts she’s done that she fussed about while making it. I guess stitching together silk, knits, etc. with precision isn’t easy….

She is now if the process of making 6 memory quilts (actually throws) out of her daughter-in-laws mom’s clothes.
