What is it with the 50’s images though? In the 1950’s we probably were closer to being socialist than we were at any other point.

I’d be happy to return to the top income tax rates of the 1950’s. Here’s the top from 1955:

91% top tax on regular income
25% top rate on capital gains
52% top rate on corporate tax
$400,000 highest income tax tier

In 1955, one-third of US workers belonged to a union, banks paid 3% interest on straight savings, two earner households were the exception rather than the rule, and a high school diploma was enough to get you a job that would enable you to raise a family without starving.

Conservatives want the TV version of the Fifties: everyone is well behaved and there are no black people. The real thing would send them screaming.
