Been happening pretty much since the dawn of time… religions will frequently borrow practices from local traditions, incorporate traditions and practices of other religions, and then modify them to suit their preferences.

Sure— half the saints in Catholicism are remnants of pagan traditions, gods and goddesses. Still was weird to see a hristmas Arch here.
