I’m getting all my online accounts set up for my new health insurance provider since my coverage just started May 1.

I have come to two inescapable conclusions during this process:

1) Health insurance is ridiculously complex and things that should be easy (how much should this medicine cost?) can be highly aggravating.

2) There is a special place in hell for companies that design their websites to ONLY be compatible with Internet Explorer.

Do you know what your out-of-network provider deductible is? Here in California this is just one of many things that can’t be found for many Covered CA providers.

The reason this matters is that even though the facility you use may be in-network, is the anesthesiologist? The radiologist? The other specialists that may be involved and are rotated in as needed?

Some people here are getting some very unpleasant surprises from this.
