Basically, if we’re taking the Abrahamic sphere, being human = being a descendant of Adam (without any angels in your genealogy). Slaves were considered fully human. Their descendants of Adam status was not doubted. That they were without most rights was considered a result of the curse.

LOL, to me, that just proves religion has been ruining people’s lives since at least the Bronze Age.
