Unemployment rate is still far higher than it was at the beginning of 2020, thanks to Trump and the GOP pandemic response. It’s not going to recover quickly, and many of those at work are those in retail businesses that suffered horribly from the shutdowns and measures designed to reduce exposures (but which the GOP fought tooth and nail to undermine/subvert causing the outbreak to continue growing).

This is a reason I’m nervous about raising the minimum wage at this point. When employment doesn’t recover quickly, the minimum wage will paint a target on Democrats’ backs. It might be better to wait until employment does recover before pushing this.
