Been happening pretty much since the dawn of time… religions will frequently borrow practices from local traditions, incorporate traditions and practices of other religions, and then modify them to suit their preferences.

It’s really interesting. Buddhism is modified Jainism, Judaism is Babylonian, Christianity is from Mithra (persian). It’s all borrowed if you look at it as a folklore study.
