You really need to know what the make up of the sampling is.
As an example, if the sampling is heavy with Democrats, it would obviously skewer the results.

All the decent polls use weighing for various factors or they would be way off, not 2-3 points. If they poll 60-40 Dem/GOP, they weigh the results to correct.
