It was the first Egyptian airstrikes since 1973 in the Sinai. The raid had to be coordinated with Israel as per the Camp David Accords - and suggests that Egypt is more than willing to abide by the terms of the agreement particularly when its own forces are at risk of being targeted by terrorists from Gaza. There have been at least three additional skirmishes between Egyptian forces and terrorists along the Sinai frontier since the deadly attack that killed 16 security forces.
