Yes, CNN is serious. The whole Mt. Denali thing was in the news this week and now you have Davis the Doofus getting many wingnuts all atwitter (heh). So with Fox having cut her loose, it would seem a good ratings move for CNN to bring on Caribou Barbie.

That’s not to say its a good thing for journalism, but cable news networks are fundamentally about money, not reporting.
