I think Generals can’t tell Presidents what they really think in such cases… not until they take off the uniform. It’s not weak of them to bite their tongues, it’s UCMJ.

Agreed. John was basically asking for a military coup d’etat.

And while we may be approaching the point where that’s the only way out other than being liberated by actual outside forces, the history of just about everyplace that ever needs one is that they don’t come in onesies.
