They say that General Hood
did everything he could.,
But six brigades lat dead upon the field.
A dozen times we’ve run
up to the enemy guns
And all I know is all my friends are killed

All I know is all my friends are killed.

Chorus

And the fife and drums
are sure exciting to the young
We marched off to find our victory
Our banners flying high
underneath the Southern sky
We met our end at Franklin, Tennessee.

Brutal battle. One of my ancestors actually fought for the Union at Franklin. The Confederates charged entrenched Union troops and they died. Some the attacks had Confederates armed with muzzleloaders facing equal numbers of Union men armed with 7-shot Spencer repeating carbines. They had no chance, and still they charged.
